Ransomware Attacks Damage British Businesses

A new research has revealed that British businesses are currently struck by malware more than ever. In view of massive WannaCry attack during last month, Malwarebytes, a cybersecurity expert, has done an investigation and found that UK businesses faced 500 percent more malware incidents every year.

UK nearly topped the list of the countries with maximum number of malware detections in Europe during first quarter of 2017.

This data of threat is given credibility with the latest ransomware attack happened against London's University College and spread all over NHS hospitals. And UK is having second highest number of detection of malware after the leader Italy.

To understand in a better way that how fast the threat scene is developing, Malwarebytes examined data collected from telemetry feeds of malware detections through computer endpoints in businesses guarded by solutions of Malwarebytes. This report focuses on threats faced by SMBs and businesses having less than 1,000 employees. Prnewswire.com posted on June 15th, 2017, stating that all data was captured in the United States represents malware meetings and remediation from 1st Jan.'2016 to 31st Mar.'2017.

According to the report, industries experiencing a high rate of malware including automotive, aerospace, chemicals, education, hospitality, healthcare, mining, oil and gas, technology, retail and tourism.

Within a month of initial attacks, Kieczynski highlights that WannaCry might be the "best understood" attack to have happened lately. However, the attack could have been more dangerous if the attackers would have been professional and if they had been sponsored by nation-state, something which did not happen as per him.

Being security professionals, it is our duty to guard businesses from threats but most competitive offerings take a single method regarding the problem which cannot keep up with different layers to stop and remediate present and future threats.

The protection of Malwarebytes which is now delivered by the platform as a service, features a signature-less Anomaly Detection Engine driven by machine learning. This new Malwarebytes solution is a more effective and efficient standby for antivirus by combining seven layers of protection.
