Hackers Closed the Key Card Machine in this Hotel Till a Bitcoin Ransom was Paid

According to a notice on the website of the company, the latest instance happened between Aug. 2016 and Mar. 2017 which included names of guests, phone numbers and addresses along with credit card numbers and expiry dates. The breach occurred on the systems of Sabre Hospitality Solutions, a reservation booking service used by Trump Hotels but it did not compromise the systems of Trump Hotels.

The breach is a part of a cyber attack on the system of Sabre which was disclosed in May. The reservation systems of Sabre are used by almost 32,000 properties all over the world. According to the notice, Sabre informed Trump Hotels about the present breach at its properties including Trump Chicago and Trump Las Vegas on 5th June.

As per the notice, the breach did not affect systems of Trump Hotels. Nytimes.com posted on July 13th, 2017, stating that this was the third breach involving the hotel chain since May 2015.

The list of hacked hotels of the chain of Trump Hotels reveals that the problems started last summer at the Trump Soho Hotel in New York City and continued at different locations till early March of 2017.

The statement said that the actual target was Sabre Hospitality Solutions which provides services related to reservations to Trump Hotels. The statement also said that Sabre did not inform Trump Hotels about the breaches till June 2017. Last Sept., the chain of Trump Hotels paid US $50,000 as a penalty due to link with 2014 breach.

Thomas Bossert, security advisor of Trump's homeland, said in a briefing in White House: "We have seen growing attacks from adversaries, allies, primarily nation-states along with non-nation-state actors but sitting by and doing nothing is no more an option."

Matt Suiche, Cybersecurity expert, told NPR that criminals are targeting hotels more frequently. In case of Trump Hotels, Suiche observed that due to attack on reservation infrastructure of Sabre by hackers, other clients of the vendor were possibly targeted also. Trump Hotels could not be contacted immediately for any comment.
