Acronis Using its File Backup Technology ‘True Image’ to Combat Ransomware Through AI

Acronis is adopting AI i.e. artificial intelligence for fighting against ransomware assaults.

The organization situated in Burlington, Massachusetts now holds one fresh revision to its technology called Active Protection which's merged with backup software called True Image also of Acronis, and utilizes information gathered through machines towards aiding in stopping ransomware against damaging data.

But worse now, ransomware developers have started corrupting backup files. As a result, Acronis is doing beyond data safeguard by utilizing AI for providing assistance to end-users in keeping their backup files protected.

The strategy of maintaining one well-made data backup serves as sturdy defense against ransomware. No matter whether it's highly inconvenient to erase followed with reinstating a contaminated PC, yet it's better than paying money to a cyber-criminal else somewhat losing precious files forever. Occasionally, even paying the ransoms there's no guarantee users would have their data restored. Therefore, online attackers have only succeeded to now target even backups. Enterprisestorageforum.com posted this, August 24, 2017.

According to Vice-President Gaidar Magdanurov who's also general manager looking after online and consumer business for Acronis, earlier by using Active Protection, the company identified modifications in data-files. It observed the files, and suppose found several file encryptions, it raised an alert.

Magdanurov disclosed that using Acronis' Active Protection during H1-2017, the company assisted 10,000 clients stop 15,000-and-more ransomware assaults. Therefore, no matter if a family used Acronis True Image 2018 alternatively any enterprise used Acronis Backup 12.5; the company ensured such clients' data remained secured. Acronis was confident that backup with the sort of protection described was necessary to stop it from becoming outdated.

Acronis has plans for spending $3m-or-more for artificial intelligence-enabled anti-ransomware techniques during 2018-20. When data is monitored in real time, it aids in verifying processes, thus usual operations keep running whilst erratic behavior is halted. By using True Image there's automatic restoration of data which was encrypted via accessing its backup.

Active Protection's latest version, says Magdanurov, makes a different way of making file backups. Files in fragments are stored on various places of a computer's hard drive which makes it easy to identify particular file fragments that maybe corrupted.
