SEBI to Hire Cyber Security Specialists

As malware attacks take place on a regular basis, SEBI (Securities and Exchange Board of India) is thinking of bringing in cyber security specialists for making sure no such incident cripples the operations of the regulator.

While no major attacks have targeted the shares markets, stock market exchanges again and again have been cautioning firms and intermediaries towards making their systems strong enough to resist online threats.

It is now SEBI's thinking of employing specialists knowledgeable with across the world best practices of information technology (IT) and cyber security while being conversant with compliance needs in respect of online security policies. Such specialists would function in the area of enforcement as well as supervision of projects associated with information technology.

SEBI is thinking of employing 4 Grade 'A' officials within the IT stream of the regulator, while desiring the aspirants as possessing wide knowledge with respect to cyber security. But prior to the proposed employments, one more process is by now going on to involve a cyber security advisor who will also advise on other IT associated projects belonging to SEBI. Four months back, SEBI had established one panel of 4 members related to cyber security which would recommend steps for protecting capital markets against cyber assaults.
