Apparel Retail Company FOREVER 21 Notifies about Credit Card Data Hack

 

FOREVER 21 a clothing store informed customers November 14 about a possible victimization of its stores during one data hack recently. Actually, an intermediate source reported to the company of an indication of an illegitimate access to credit card data utilized for making payments at a few stores of FOREVER 21.

 

Making a public statement, the retailer elaborated that due to some solutions of tokenization and encryption, which it enforced during 2015; it seemed as though merely a select few POS (point-of-sale) machines within certain FOREVER 21 shops felt the brunt at the time the encryption mechanism wasn't running on those machines. Even then, the company has issued an alert for all its customers that they must review their payment card transactions.

FOREVER 21 situated in Los Angeles stated that it took the services of a security company for executing an investigation. At present the retail chain is examining card payments at its shops that took place between March 2017 and October 2017. The company didn't tell of the specific stores that may've got affected.

 

FOREVER 21 further stated that as the investigation was ongoing the finished results weren't available while time wasn't yet ripe for presenting more details about the probe. It advised customers to keep watch over the statements of their credit cards carefully to check for any illegitimate purchase deals. In 2017 alone, of the many firms hit with data breaches, FOREVER 21 too is included, besides Chipotle, Saks Fifth Avenue, Arby's, Whole Foods Market, Equifax and Verizon. This information is from Identity Force, a company which provides security and safeguard of personal information while tracks data hacks.

 

Overall, it's important that consumers keep close watch over statements of their credit cards. Any buyer from a shop who finds a dubious debit entry must instantly inform his card issuing firm.
