Uber is Sued by Washington State for Concealing about Data Breaches


A multimillion dollar lawsuit has been filed against Uber for the consumer protectionby the attorney general of Washington state Mr. Bob Ferguson, when this data breach came into his attention.

On Tuesday Uber said that they have broken the state law for not informing about their data breach to their more than 10000 drivers. Uber also acknowledged last week that a year ago or more, they paid $100,000 to the hackers to destroy their secured data that were stolen by hackers concerning 57 million or more of the ride-sharing service of customers as well as drivers.

Four lawsuits have been filed against Uber, among them three are for seeking the status of class-action, caused by the information breach. As per the post on straitstimes.com dated 29/11/2017, according to the Federal Trade Commission, it is nearly assessing the hack reportsand the lawyers general of five states have propelled investigations.

Million dollars of civil penalties have been imposed on Uber. Up to $2000 fines per violation has been charged. Uber continues the violation everyday of not informing the customers about the breach, Ferguson said, Uber was being through such violence earlier and paid $200,000 to New York last year for data breach in 2014.

Ferguson said, he doesn't think the company had any legal obligation to inform, based on the case of information theft of the Washington passengers.

Uber said in an announcement on Tuesday, it considers the issue seriously and is working with regulators. Ferguson also said, Uber's work is exceptionally good. There is no reason of hiding this incident from customers.

Uber said, they are dedicated to upgrade the way they do business and they make every decision honestly and putting huge effort to regain customer's trust again.

An hour after the development in a court case in California, Ferguson declared, the lawsuit that the stateimposed. Government prosecutors are inspecting the allegations on Uber, that they sent a reconnaissance group to steal trade secrets of their competitors. This disclosure has put this high-profile trial on delay to investigate whether Uber copied the technology of self-driving from Google's spinoff, Waymo.
