Aadhaar Databases Safe from Hacking

Many reported incidents about hacking into Aadhaar data have come in that have drawn a significant amount of public attention during recent years. However, Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ravi Shankar Prasad says that no number of attempts can successfully compromise these databases compiled through biometrics examinations. Businesstoday.in posted this, July 16, 2018. The minister explains that the databases include iris scan and fingerprints stored safely and in secured manner that can't be invaded.

A news report in Hindustan Times tells that Prasad while giving a speech at an IT Policy inauguration event in Goa further drew attention to the reality of Aadhaar database as not having any information which trolls would be capable of utilizing. He said like in everybody's case, his Aadhaar data too contained his photo, the facts such as he was a male, his Patna residential address, his medical record, his income, his community/caste/religion as well as his other private details that could otherwise let someone troll him.

Prasad then elaborated on India's digital profile. He said that for the 130 crore people of the country there were 450m smart-phones, 121 crore cell-phones, over 50 crore Internet connections as well as 122 crore Aadhaar cards.

He described "Digital India" to be one transformative programme that would enhance ordinary Indians' capability based on enriched technology as well as that India surged in the direction of leading the digital revolution.

In the meantime, on 13th July, the Union government made it clear that everyone having an Aadhaar card was something desired for, however, not compulsory for securing the benefits under its impressive Ayushman Bharat -National Health Protection Mission. This announcement followed media's reporting about the central government's publication of certain gazette notification according to which Aadhaar was compulsory for the national health insurance programme's beneficiaries.

Some petitioners in a team lately challenged Aadhaar project's constitutional validity before the Supreme Court for which the court is yet to give its verdict.

Meanwhile, Manohar Parrikar Chief Minister of Goa cautioned about fake news or rumours as a significant demerit in having the technology's wider use across remote regions of the nation.
