One Half Million Attempts Reported of Downloading Rogue Apps from Google’s Play

Malware is familiarly spread through fake apps; however according to one security researcher, he has known of over one half million end-users who downloaded rogue apps that pretended to be driving games while contained in Google's Play Store.

During the recent years, malicious software for Android powered devices has been increasing. Lukas Stefanko security researcher from ESET has discovered thirteen applications on Google Play all of which carried malware. Stefanko says that over 560K people have taken down these applications directly from the Play prior to Google
eliminating them, and also that Luiz Pinto is the developer of the said apps.Thenextweb.com posted this, November 21, 2018.

There has been previous instances too when malware crept into Android apps. Those instances pertain to the Monero gathering malicious program, the Loapi malicious software and the Facebook infiltrating malicious software, all created for Android.

Downloaders of the applications expected getting online game for driving car or truck. But they actually received an apparent buggy application which collapsed whenever it opened. Essentially, that application downloaded certain payload lurking on some other domain whose registration was with certain application developer based at Istanbul,
while that application planted malware secretly as its icon got deleted during the process.

It isn't still clear about the precise function of the rogue applications; VirusTotal's different malware scanners seemingly do not have a common opinion about the malware's actual function. Clearly known, however, is persistent nature of the malware because it launches itself whenever any Android powered tablet/phone gets booted. Also, it's capable of wholly acquiring admission into its e-traffic that can be utilized for stealing confidential info.

Now many years have passed since Google has attempted at doubling Android's security via incorporating improved security capabilities along with application permission controls of increased granular form. Still, the company keeps on combating sinister applications inside the Play that are now the most serious security dangers to Android end-users. In 2017 alone, Google eliminated over 700K rogue applications from its Play Store, while attempted improvement of its back runner systems towards averting rogue applications from entering Play at the very outset.
