The Shubert Organization, which has one of largest operations in the theatre both on as well as beyond Broadway, suffered from a data breach. The affected customers were contacted through a letter providing the notice of breach.
According to the letter mailed to the affected customers, the company came across some unusual activity on an email account of an employee on or around Feb. 11, 2019. An investigation was immediately launched by Shubert with help of forensic experts in order to determine the scope and nature of the activity. The investigation revealed that there was unauthorized access to a few employee email accounts in between Feb. 8, 2019, and Feb. 11, 2019 - before it was detected.
The letter that was mailed further stated that "while the investigation was unable to confirm the scope of the information that was accessed within the affected email accounts, Shubert is notifying you in an abundance of caution because we have confirmed that your information was present in the affected email accounts".
Additionally, this incident was reported to several state regulators as well as Attorneys General. The Shubert Organization is also providing the affected individuals 2 Years of free credit monitoring services via TransUnion Interactive. A call center was also set up by Shubert to answer whatever questions or concerns one may have about this incident.
On Mar. 14, 2019, the investigation confirmed that information present in compromised email accounts includes customer names, expiration dates of credit cards, and the credit card numbers. However, it was not clear whether the information has been actually accessed by the intruder.
"We take security of personal information in our care very seriously," said a representative of Shubert Organization. The Shubert representative added that "we have security measures in place to protect the data on our systems, and we continue to assess and update our security measures and training to our employees to safeguard the privacy and security of information in our care".
As information getting stored on Internet is increasing day-by-day, so cyber-security breaches are becoming quite common for businesses.
