Security Vendors Not Ready While Microsoft Launches Vista

At the time Microsoft released its 'Vista operating system' with much fanfare, most security vendors were still struggling to produce third-party anti-virus software to help enterprises in safeguarding the latest Windows ecosystem.

Microsoft on November 30, 2006 released 'Windows Vista' for business. But it seemed most security companies needed more time to deliver products for the protection of the new operating system. For Microsoft, the launch of 'Windows Vista' is the biggest product launch it has ever had for enterprises, said Microsoft's U.K. 'managing director' Gordon Frazer.

Following this, McAfee announced 'McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.5' and 'McAfee AntiSpyware Enterprise 8.5' to support 'Microsoft Windows Vista'. They offer customers advanced and proactive protection against viruses, worms, spyware, adware, rootkits, hacker attacks and exploits. These updated tools do not just offer simple protection but go beyond that. It offers database of signatures designed by advanced technology that guards systems from both known and unknown threats. McAfee's associate partners are highly trained and experienced who help the customer to plan, install, deploy, tune and train. In short, they customize solutions for optimum benefit suiting the customer's environment.

Rees Johnson, 'vice president of product management', McAfee Inc, assures McAfee's commitment to support its customers with 'Windows Vista consistency'. He said as the threat environment constantly changes, it becomes a vital issue for McAfee's customers. McAfee has, therefore, designed its 'VirusScan Enterprise' and 'AntiSpyware Enterprise' to provide its business users with more suitable appliances to mitigate risks that security threats loom on heavily.

According to security analysts, it would not be less than 18 months when companies would start adopting Vista to cover the testing period. They further say that many companies will purchase the new operating system only when they buy new hardware. Gordon Frazer noted that PCs acquired in the last 18 to 24 months were surely capable of running Vista. This is because the 'processor' and 'memory requirements' of Vista were not incompatible with those of XP.

Considering some changes in Windows XP, Microsoft is banking on Vista as a cost-effective version of Windows in terms of 'power-use reductions' and 'reduced deployment and management costs'.
