Websites – The Latest Weapon in The Hands of Phishers

Despite arming their PCs against malware, users are still not completely safe. The reason is that hackers are now aiming at infecting the websites to carry out their attacks, say security experts.

IT PRO has reported that Google researchers discovered several WebPages to be carrying malware designed for infecting users as they visit those websites, thereby eliminating the need to send infected email to do so.

With the rising number of Phishers over the last few years, the dark-coders are now turning more organized and motivated by financial reasons. Carrying out their assault in an overwhelming series of ferocious kinds and strains, malware has become more complex to both detect & ward off with software in comparison to the more 'garden variety' PC viruses and worms.

FaceTime Communications' malware research director Chris Boyd said, malware infected sites were turning more popular with scammers and cyber crooks since most end-users have already "over loaded their machines with multiple layers of security-tools". "Services, such as social-networking sites, are a lot more easier and straightforward way to infect user machines." ITPRO published Boyd's statement on May 18, 2007.

As per Boyd, while PCs are "theoretically" somewhat safer the bad news is that sometimes the users can "absolutely nothing" to protect their data from being snatched by said services. Avoid using the services is the only way by which one can avoid infection.

Numerous malevolent websites are developed regularly to seize the information from unwary visitors or to plant nasty software on their machines without even letting them know, as per security experts in an interview with TechNewsWorld on May 18, 2007.

Malware is turning into a bigger menace day by day. Truly speaking, in spite of the best efforts of various security firms and software developers to put a cap on malware infections' growth, instead of stopping the problem is only growing further.
