New Tricks Of Image Spam

Spammers outwit various technology and email-filters. They frustrated them by bringing into effective action a new device of image spam.

According to Secure Computing's Trusted Source Lab, this new technology of spam makes the best of spam image volume. It was due to the scam artists, who use images instead of text to fix messages and advertisement, that image spam become known in 2006. Although, in due course of time, image spam has undergone many changes that it become more difficult to detect.

As per the news Technewsworld on May 29, 2007, principal research analyst for Trusted Source Lab, Dmitri Alperovich, said to the E-commerce times, that this technique involves hosting messages which serve as link to popular photo sites. It becomes more difficult to pull images or hinder these links even with black listings as it may lead to false positives.

Alperovich added that the requirement for the spammers is just a source to pull images to the end user's screen and the delivery is done automatically through HTML code, according to the Technewsworld on May 29, 2007

Compared to massive 60% in January 2007, spam image reported for merely 15.6% of total spam on May 20, 2007.

According to the news by M-net.net.nz on May 28, 2007, Marshal Director of Product Management, Bradley Anstis said that from July (2006) to April (2007), spam image viewed a drastic increase in consistency and volume. It increased from 13% (July 2006) to 40% (April 2007) and emerge as a prominent form of spam in 2007.

As reported by Help Net Security in the second week of May 2007, senior technology consultant at Sophos, Graham Cluley said, that the circulation of spam image doubles in 2006. He also explained as, it has been proved that it is tough to detect by anti-spam filters that depends on analysis of textual spam content, therefore, it has proved to be the greatest trend of spamming in 2007.

Senior Director of anti-abuse engineering on image spam threats for Symantec, Doug Bowers, said that spam image requires more space for storage; consequently, it has proved to be expensive, as per the news reported by Technewsworld on May 29, 2007.
