Vietnam - Around 60% of Government Sites Targeted by Hackers

As per a survey carried out by the Government commission for Code at an international workshop of network security and information (which held in HCM city recently), it has been found that in Vietnam, the hackers targeted almost 60% of govt. sites. A Commission representative has claimed that in Vietnam, computer networks of several credit institutions, companies, and state agencies are attacked be hackers for financial profit.

The survey has disclosed that 60% of the sites of ministries and state agencies, having the domain name gov.vn, have been targeted by the hackers. These attacks occur in many forms, but the most famous one is the archive system of ISP (Internet Service Provider) to eliminate the information of service charges, leak out the information of companies, passwords of credit accounts etc. Thus, the important sections viz. national defence, foreign affairs, e-commerce and other govt. organizations should be protected with information system security for the safety of the national interest.

As per the news of Vietnam Net on August 8, 2007, Mr. Tran Duc Lich, head of the Science and Technology department of the coding board, said that Vietnam would surely become a spot for hacking, as it has a dynamic and strong economy and rapid development of information technology.

Some firms have deployed security protection methods, but they are not synchronous. No doubt that the state has formulated the legal foundation for information security activities, but it lacked proper guidelines and norms. The local Internet police of Vietnam have also demanded for more harsh punishment for the hackers, as the computer viruses and attacks have posed a big threat for the online community of Vietnam.

The officials of the companies and management agencies have chalked out a plan for making the national information security as the basis to make state policies in this field.

The govt. of Vietnam has put up restrictions on the use of net to spread the secrets of the country and has put a halt on the activities threatening the security of the state. Further, Vietnam has also collaborated with international network security companies to restrict attacks from outside the country.
