Web Becoming Launching Ground for Harmful Codes

Producer and distributor of information security solutions, Kaspersky, has cautioned that the Web is consistently being used as a ground for relaying malicious codes. Consequently, the users of computer can get infected just by accessing a site, a method called "drive-by-download".

The researchers at Kaspersky discovered that Internet users are becoming victims of harmful codes. Further, users don't have any knowledge about the dangers and therefore, are risking their systems to potential dangers.

Senior Technology Consultant for the company, David Emm, said that in the past 3-4 years, they have been living in an environment which is known as cyber crime instead of cyber vandalism. Those people who make harmful programs are paid some sort of pay-off at the end of the program. That means if people go online regularly, it will generate heavy income for them, as per the news reported by Ihotdesk on February 19, 2008.

This kind of harmful malware can be installed in the system by just clicking on the Website if the user does not have appropriate security for their browser. Also, users generally visit the Internet for financial transactions, networking and banking etc, so they will help in making huge profit for cyber criminals.

Therefore, Kaspersky researchers advised users about the security of their PC by becoming more aware about the technologies and the existing dangers or potential pitfalls on the Internet.

David Emm also claimed that as many people have started coming online, users should pay a bit more attention than they have done on offline messaging. Normally, people get the message about the security of Internet before they come online and advised that this may probably entail reaching them through other ways like TV.

In related news on February 8, 2008, Internet security provider Panda Software also discovered that as the variety of malware and/or harmful codes increases, threats are increasing. PandaLabs said that it receives almost 3,000 different kinds of deadly codes everyday. Online viruses are always high, with some estimates showing that there were 5 times as many variants of harmful programs in 2007 as compared to 2006.
