Fake Spammers Scaring Receivers in South Dakota

South Dakotans are being warned about a fake e-mail, which claims that it has been sent by a hired killer to kill the intended victim. Larry Long, the Attorney General of South Dakota, cautioned South Dakotans about the mail, as reported by ArgusLeader on February 23, 2008.

Long also said that the Division of Criminal investigation and the Consumer Protection Division has got many complaints of the fake e-mail during the last week. The mail appears as an attempt to exploit fears of users by a con artist.

The e-mail says that receiver can stop his planned murder attempt by sending the specified amount of money but further warns receiver against informing law enforcement agency and if he does that, then his family members will face a life threat.

The e-mail requests people to click on the link and directs them to a fake Website resembling to the IRS Website. The second e-mail inquires people about their social security or their bank account numbers.

Sara Rabern from the Attorney General's Office said that these scams usually surface at this time of year. It is being witnessed that these spam e-mails increase in number with the commencement of January as the tax season approaches, as reported by FOX NEWS on February 23, 2008.
