Preventive Measures by Canadians against Spamming Threat

Ontario, Canada-based residents are incessantly fighting back with spam increasingly compared to 2010, reports TD Canada Trust Fraud Prevention Month Poll.

An ever increased number of 78% Canadians (against 58% in 2010) claimed of protecting their PINS. Around 11% said they rarely send credit card-related information through an email, in comparison to a minimum of 20% sending the same, during a TD Poll in 2010.

Ontario residents are now preconscious of taking necessary steps towards preventing themselves from being victimized. But Justin Hwang, Associate Vice President of Fraud Management and TD Canada Trust, advised Canadians to remain conscious and prevent themselves from being trapped, reports DIGITAL JOURNAL on February 23, 2011.

Cyber crooks are always trying their best in developing new scams to distribute malware for which Canadians need to remain extra alert in preventing themselves from being trapped. These days' crooks apply sophisticated strategies in fooling people, but one needs to remember pretty well that banks never ask for personal information through mails. Any doubt or suspicion should be made clear immediately by calling the banks, added Hwang.

Security experts while commenting on the matter acknowledged that though there exist numerous specialized technology and tools for shielding people from fraudulence, still self- preventive measures including protecting PINS and extra prevention while adding personal information should be maintained from people's end.

79% Canadians were worried of fraudulence this year compared to 82% in 2010. Three quarter of Canadians showed their concern of being victims of phishing, particularly scams which cheat consumers and provoke them into providing personal information, reports TD.

According to an estimate by a survey by Visa Canada, only 14% of Canadians are found to be engaged in risky behavior by sharing their PIN. Whereas, only 11% were reported to be sharing credit card information via emails as per news published in TORONTOSUN on February 23, 2011.

In a similar survey conducted by Visa and TD Canada Trust in 2010, an estimated excess of more than 1 Million debit and credit cards of Canadians were found to be compromised. These were people with a neglecting attitude. Meanwhile enthrallment of debit card PINS and credit card account numbers still continues affluently posing a threat to ignorant people.
