Bogus E-mails Vow for Employment in Marriott Hotel

Security researchers are cautioning that scammers, while striking online, are distributing fake e-mails apparently promising job seekers employment in Britain's Marriott Hotel. Moneylife.in reported this on February 7, 2011.

Interestingly, according to the method of operation of the scam, the fraudsters, possibly by utilizing databases dug out from Naukri.com and Monster.com the popular job sites, are dispatching spam mails directing candidates to send in their resumes. And immediately when a candidate does so, he receives an online form from the scammers, wherein he's asked to apply complete with different personal details.

There's also one interview form to be filled that checks the candidate's interest, eagerness and motivation level for getting into the company.

Thereafter, with the exchange of e-mails over, a representative posing as a Marriott Hotel official proposes a face-to-face contact with the candidate at Mumbai. And during that meeting, the candidate is asked to give some money, described as one fee, which when he provides, simply vanishes along with the official.

Remarkably, the phone numbers provided inside the e-mail too don't correspond with those belonging to the Hotel.

Security researchers, following the above kind of scams, observe that alarmingly employment hunters don't know about the growing utilization of bogus job campaigns designed for obtaining financial details.

According to them, job hunters, today, are greatly dependent on job websites for securing employment. But, providing resumes online can sadly escalate users' danger of getting victimized with bogus job schemes, phishing e-mails and identity fraud.

Moreover, the researchers state that indeed many job websites exist, which are well-known as also safe; however, scammers will deceitfully apply any technique for acquiring personal data, just like in the above instance where they've abused Naukri.com and Monster.com for making unwitting job hunters divulge personal information.

Consequently, security researchers have advised Internet job seekers for examining the e-mails closely for making sure they're genuine and safe prior to replying.

Finally, they also recommend people who've been victimized with such fake job campaigns that they should inform the media and Police in order that the perpetrators can be caught while others too can be made aware of the scams.
