New Encryptor Gpcode Variant Demands Ransom for Decryption

Kaspersky Lab, the provider of Internet Threat Management solutions designed to protect computers against all kinds of malware, said that it discovered a variant of Gpcode emcryptor virus called Virus.Win32.Gpcode.ak. Kaspersky Lab issued a signature for the variant on June 4, 2008, as reported by marketwire on June 5, 2008.

According to Kaspersky Lab, the latest variant of Gpcode that has been detected after nearly one and a half years, is a severe threat unlike previously because this time, the malware is employing powerful encryption that till now it has challenged attempts to decrypt it, as reported by NETWORKWORLD on June 5, 2008.
