Campaign Organizers for Obama Looking for Improved Website SecurityBarack Obama's presidential campaign organizers are searching for a computer security expert, who would help to block access to Obama's Website, by any unauthorized party following a hack attempt on it in April 2008, as reported by COMPUTERWORLD on June 12, 2008 According to news published in dailies and various press releases, the requirements expected from the security experts are very similar to those found in any help-wanted advertisement for e-commerce security. Elucidating on the ongoing progress with regard to Obama's Website security, Paul Ferguson, Network Architect at Trend Micro, security firm, said that the campaign organizers are now more watchful as the nomination is moving towards victory, as reported by COMPUTERWORLD on June 12, 2008. Ferguson added that it is worth the organizers' time devoted to the enhanced the Web security. Meanwhile, as per security experts' warning, powerful Website features even open opportunities for attack. And, according to reports received, in April 2008, a programming fault allowed a Hillary Clinton supporter to divert part of Obama's Website to Clinton's. However, the current Web attack methods could result in much more grave consequences. According to Oliver Friedrichs, Director at Symantec Security Response, attacks like SQL insertions could cause far more concerns, as reported by COMPUTERWORLD on June 12, 2008. And as per security employees' analyses, the SQL injection attacks exploit programming errors that allow the attackers to gain illegal access to parts of a Website. These attacks could also be launched to install malware or to get access to passwords or similar sensitive information. In the meantime, it isn't just Obama's Website that is affected on account of Web security flaws. According to report, a similar bug emerged in Mitt Romney's site in January 2008, and in another case, a spam campaign that used Hillary Clinton's name, delivered malicious Trojan-laced messages, said Friedrichs, as reported by InterGovWorld on June 13, 2008. Speaking on Website security in connection with political campaigns, Henry Poole, Founder of the Internet Campaign Consultancy, CivicActions, said that while the denial-of-service attacks and Website defacements might be highly frequent security prooblems, a Website privacy breach could fast become a significant campaign issue, as reported by InterGovWorld on June 13, 2008.
