Hackers Abusing Google Trends to Spread Malware

According to Webroot, security software developer, malicious hackers are leveraging Google Trends to attract more victims to fake blogging sites hosting malware.

Webroot security specialists have said that hackers are allegedly leveraging trends to determine the stories users are likely to search on the basis of the popularity of the subject. Further, to implant malicious software, hackers are setting up bogus blogs containing video links to news that users are looking for.

Moreover, as soon as a user opens any of the links, he is prompted to download a given video codec. But during the download, the codec starts downloading a malicious anti-spyware program prepared to lure the end-user into purchasing illegal software that could put personal information at risk.
