Spam Eroding Output of Canadian WorkforceAccording to internet security experts, spam is getting unmanageable, seriously diminishing productivity of Canadian companies and their workforce. Also, during the last twelve months, Canadian spam accounted for 90-95% of the total e-mail, according to reports. And given the statistics, David Poellhuber, Founder and President of Montreal-based Zerospam, provider of IT security services, said more spam arrived in mailboxes than authentic mails. There were 9 spam mails in every ten e-mails, as reported by itbusiness on October 23, 2008. Meanwhile, security investigators and analysts said that spam means great loss to recipients. According to these experts, spam is the activity of sending massive number of identical messages to flood the Internet, and forcing people to receive them who wouldn't otherwise do so. Spam analysts also said that spam eats up precious time of IT employees, preventing them from focusing on the company's main business, and in its place constantly checking spam. This results in sharp drop in productivity from knowledgeable employees of any organization. The effect of spam on other enterprise resources is also devastating. Moreover, talking about the precious technical resources going into the drains owing to spam, Poellhuber says that these include disk space, CPU cycles, Internet bandwidth as well as internet connected network capacity. Meanwhile, in a recent development, Zerospam welcomed the US Federal Trade Commission's massive anti-spam campaign during the 3rd week of October 2008. The campaign screwed up an international spam network that had been sending billions of illicit messages, encouraging people to purchase unsafe weight loss and male-enhancement pills. And with this, the anti-spam group believes that the impact of FTC's anti-spam campaign in fighting spam would be somewhat insignificant, as many spamming gangs operate all over the world. FTC officials said that spammers, who extort large sums of money, are able to churn the ill-gotten money owing to the ignorance of internet users about spam and ensuing hazards. Security researchers said that internet users need to know terms such as spam. Owing to this malicious practice of cyber criminals, the recipient of spam being at the charity of the spammer for the safety of his/her money.
