Hackers Redirected CheckFree Customers to Own Server
CheckFree, an online payment service, is said to have lost control on at least two of its domains on December 2, 2008 after an attack that diverted its customers to notorious criminal gang server based in Eastern Europe.
The company said on December 3, 2008 that the customer login page and home page were compromised to redirect users to a web page that uploaded malicious software on their machines.
Susan Wade, spokeswoman, Network Solutions, said that someone logged into the Network Solution account of CheckFree to alter the domain's DNS setting; consequently, the site traffic was redirected, as reported by Business Center on December 3, 2008. She further added that somebody captured the login information of a customer, but how he did it is still a mystery.
