Security Firm Disables Hizbollah Website

Applicure, an Israeli network security company, while giving a trial to hacking software that the Chinese cyber criminals developed successfully managed to shut down www.hizbollah.tv a Hizbollah website.

The company used just ten bots and easily disabled the site using relatively simple software.

The reports state that Applicure employed the DOS technology to disable the website infected by a virus. But this virus attempts to copy itself to a large number of users' PCs. Besides, the technology includes the Trojan that can be adjusted to every type of activity ranging from monitoring of keyboard strokes to peering into the user's web cam.

Furthermore, it is learnt that Applicure was "experimenting with the hacking tools of Chinese hackers" that resulted into the closure of the site. As the company used cheap software worth only $260 per annum with a small number of bots, it was easy to bring down the site. This indicates that the site's security software did not commensurate with the required standard or was insufficient.

Another interesting point is that it is not difficult to access the software's components and the application is clearly designed for regular users in contrast to traditional software. This implies the website's security program is malicious enough to allow anyone to crack its code even those who have little knowledge about website management and control.

Commenting on Applicure's attack, a famous security expert David Alush said the infiltration into the website database takes place automatically. The virus scans the whole website, and if its content is connected to other websites, then they become corrupted, as reported by Haaretz on March 24, 2009.

Considering that the security breach will be a lesson, the security specialists stated that time was pretty ripe for Israel to address its online world. According to them, third parties were using the country's Internet to launch cyber attacks, leading to several of its websites becoming infected with malicious programs or disabled easily like Applicure had done when conducting its own trial run.
