Scammers Seeking Money Through Death Threatening E-mails

The most recent scam that has struck the Internet includes a demand for cash by the sender of the scam e-mail in exchange for sparing the recipient's life. The intimidating e-mail is currently targeting netizens of Toledo, Ohio (USA).

Meanwhile, the latest target of the attack is a lady whose name is Cynthia. However, the woman hasn't been victimized in the scam.

Cynthia states that she regularly checks her e-mail in the morning. But one day she got an e-mail from some Mustafa Nabad asking for $70,000 in return for sparing her life, as reported by wtol on June 23, 2009.

Cynthia, however, says that the text of the e-mail hinted her that the message was possibly fake.

But Cynthia is anxious that there could be others who might believe the e-mail or have become victims of the scam by sending money in the name of the e-mail writer out of fear of death.

It is possible that the e-mail writer is sending copies of his e-mail to many people i.e. sending the same e-mail in the form of spam or junk messages to numerous individuals who, scared of death, might perhaps remit the cash to the criminal.

Cynthia said it particularly worries her that someone who might receive the e-mail and not being sufficiently astute fall for it. She thinks the older people could be specially affected.

Meanwhile, police officials urge netizens to distance themselves from such kinds of fictitious e-mails like the death threatening e-mails currently making rounds on the Internet. According to them, people must not remit cash to a stranger. They must not reply to any e-mail that asks for personal information like the user's full name, bank account details or telephone number.

Police further advise people to be careful of unsolicited e-mails or correspondences, despite their sender being an organization or individual who might sound official.

In addition, netizens are recommended that they make themselves more aware of e-mail scams such as the type of phishing scams that could attack them without difficulty and how they can protect themselves from the same.
