Phishing E-mails Spoofed TSTT'Telecommunications Services of Trinidad and Tobago' (a state-owned organization of Trinidad and Tobago) has issued a warning that a bogus e-mail purporting to be from TSTT is currently doing the rounds. The scam's details reveal that phishers sending the fraudulent e-mail are posing as TSTT employees asking for the e-mail and Internet usernames and passwords of the customers in the pretext that TSTT is upgrading its "tstt.net.tt" services and therefore requires information. TSTT cautions everyone and said - no one should reveal his account information in response to the TSTT-spoofed e-mail, as the organization wouldn't ever need such information online. To save oneself from becoming victim of these kinds of phishing e-mails such as the hoax TSTT e-mails, security specialists advise that users should reset their passwords in every three months. Besides, web users should not use an identical password on many websites and if anyone is already using the same password, he should now set different passwords, the specialists said. Another vital suggestion is to click cautiously. If anyone receives a message, which seems as if it has come from a genuine website and is requesting the user to click on the corresponding web-link for various reasons like requiring his updated security information as in the case of the TSTT e-mail, then the person should think twice before clicking. The link might lead him to a malicious website, which seizes that information to carry out probable identity theft or crimes of other kinds. A safer option is to simply enter the URL address directly into the browser. One more important suggestion that would help to identify scam e-mails is that such e-mails always appear urgent. The urgency is to make recipients reply instantly without thinking. phishing e-mails often claim that the recipient's information is needed as someone might have hijacked his account. Meanwhile, TSTT has assured that upon finding the perpetrators, it would take all necessary actions against them. It is committed to safeguard the secret information of its customers and block any future fraud against them, as reported by Trinidadexpress on October 26, 2009.
