Viruses Hit More than 1,000 Websites in Vietnam in 2009

In a conference held in Hanoi on March 23 on information security, security experts revealed an alarmed increase of danger from computer viruses and cyber attacks in Vietnam. Cyber crooks attacked more than 1,000 websites in the year 2009, twice the 2008 figures and thrice the figures of year before.

As told by the head of Computer Operations Agency under the Ministry of Public Security, Nguyen Viet The, in the conference, over 300 websites had been discovered and attacked in Q1 2010, as per the news published by THANH NIEN on March 26, 2010.

Vietnam would face more intricate cyber crimes and more variants of viruses this year, principally in the area of banking and finance. Moreover, this year, phishing is anticipated to increase in complexity and number in Vietnam.

Experts explained that to burgle personal details, user names and passwords, the hackers, on a general note, use Spyware, phishing websites, Key-Logger, Trojan and Adware. Additionally, credit card information by high-tech felons is burglarized through hoax on commercial websites, online trading, and ATM transactions. Last year, 40 such highly complicated violation cases were unearthed by The Ministry of Public Security. Such hi-tech cyber offences crimes such as stealing credit card details and e-mail passwords accounted for the losses worth thousands of billions of dong

According to Nguyen Viet The, assaults became more complicated each passing year, costing more to the enterprises, according to the news published by Vietnamnet Bridge on March 25, 2010.

IT experts stated that because of the creation of numerous viruses, Internet security would require more strictness this year. Also, the information fraud will surge as the cyber miscreants have access to much more complicated techniques.

Hence, to solve this problem, to ascertain national information safety from present to 2020, Vietnam will draw near about VND765 Billion (US$40.5 Million) from the State budget. As said by Vu Quoc Khanh, Computer Emergency Response Team (VNCERT) director of the Ministry of Information and Communications, the capital would be used for the institutions to guard national information and technology infrastructure, as per the news published by hack in the box on March 26, 2010.

Besides, to combat hackers, an official foundation for agencies and ministries would be created by the national information security development plan.
