BBB Cautions Users About IRS E-mail ScamBetter Business Bureau (BBB) of Southern Arizona has cautioned about a mail scam that aims to fool users into believing that they have got a message from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). The mail has been hacking inboxes worldwide and carries the subject line: "Notice of Underreported Income". The mail also shows the taxpayer ID. Such a tax type, called 'INCOME TAX', talks on unreported/underreported income (Fraud Application). Further, the mail informs the recipient that to see his tax statement on the site of IRS, he has to click on a link attached with the mail. BBB stated that clicking on hyperlinks might take the user and his system to malicious websites and will probably make users disclose their private and confidential data. IRS informs that it never contacts any taxpayer through e-mail. Moreover, IRS is itself a very old and reliable agency as far as dealing with taxpayer is concerned. Every communication is done through postal mail. Therefore, if any taxpayer in Arizona gets a mail from IRS, they can be sure of its phony status. And in case of any further doubts, the customers can directly contact the IRS and ask if they have send any mail or not. Besides, if taxpayers want to collect more details about phishing and mail scams they should visit www.tucson.bbb.org or call the helpline number given on the official webpage. Further, users are advised to access the site of IRS for further details on the method of reporting a phishing scam. In addition, it is not that 'unreported income' scam mails hit only US citizens. In UK also, taxpayers have stated about getting scam mails with 'Notice of Underreported Income' form Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs (HMRC) that intends to steal private information from the recipient. Finally, taxpayers all over the world have recommended to delete such fake mails immediately without even opening them.
