New Ransomware Campaign Targeting German Internet Users Found
Security researchers from Sophos have encountered a new ransomware campaign that targets Internauts from Germany.
A message seems from the German Federal Criminal Police (Bundeskriminalamt) that says that proof have been collected for the computers has been used to see pornography involving minors, same as ransomware attacks.
There are some images of sexual abuse of children, with the minor's names, date of birth and place with the warning message which are not observed in most of the attacks.
Senior Technology Consultant, Graham Cluley at Sophos said "Several images claim to be of girls of almost 13 years old. However old people in the pictures really are... it's easy to imagine how people who see what seems to be an official police warning, police warning, claiming that child porn website have been managed, and discovering that their computer has been locked, can make them fear" as published by Gmanetwork.com dated April6, 2013.
IP address and internet service provider displays on the lock screen, along with a live webcam view of the user if the hardware is available. To unlock their PC, they are advised to pay the fine and for that they are also given an online account to pay money into
The foolish thing to do is to pay the fine with such attacks. Your PC will be claimed as fool in the end and also there would be surely some financial demands to follow.
If the user is online for a sometime it gets activated while in most ransomware it gets activated when Compromised PC is booted up, Cluley elaborated.
The site also distributes the ransomware is also manufactured to target the internet users from UK. The warning message is intended to be from Metropolitan police, if the visitors have United Kingdom IP address, according to Sophos.
The good news is that no reports are observed from UK users from security firm.
In the following time, your antivirus is on air and working to hike your chances of getting such threats. Don' pays the ransom money if your system is compromised.
