Cyber-criminals send Scam E-mails Masquerading as any Service Provider

Cyber-criminals apply different tricks for duping Internauts into giving away the credentials of their e-mail A/Cs. A latest one involves dispatching fraudulent e-mails posing as message from a random service provider, while asking receivers to answer by providing personal username and password, specialists are cautioning and softpedia.com published it dated April 8, 2013.

In a particular instance of the scam e-mails, a message titled "Warning Code: 11XXTT8765" that supposedly from 'Admin Group,' tells the e-mail user that the service provider is presently conducting routine upgrade as well as maintenance of its e-mail system therefore, there's now one new e-mail client for the provider resulting in the resetting of the user's original password. Any inconvenience caused is regretted. Meanwhile, the user wishing to continue with his e-mail account should answer immediately by keying in his present password on a given web-link, states the message.

There's also a warning in the e-mail i.e. not answering with the information asked can result in his e-mail account getting deactivated.

But according to the e-mail scam's analysts, no known service provider has actually written the e-mail and everything asserted within it are untrue. Instead a phishing campaign is at play that's crafted for enticing gullible end-users into giving away personal account passwords to the scammers.

Unfortunately, anyone complying by the request by dispatching his password will shortly discover that fraudsters have hijacked his e-mail A/C and utilized the same for launching more scam or spam attacks. When the said messages are dispatched they'll seem as arriving from the actual A/C-owner while consist of his usual contact particulars and e-mail signature.

Therefore, the hijackers dispatch fake e-mails, which can't get easily identified as sent from the miscreants. Meanwhile, receivers of such e-mails are likely to believe everything written in the messages since they seem as arriving from a person familiar and trustworthy in their knowledge.

Conclusively, Internauts are cautioned that it they get electronic mails, which attempt at sounding urgent, with threats of unpleasant consequences similar as account deactivation within the above mentioned instance, they should know it's a scam. As a result, they should erase such messages instantly.
