Spam Mails Abuse Mother’s Day on the Internet

BitDefender is warning of spam mails themed around Mother's Day (coming 12th May 2013), as circulating online while attacking unwitting Internauts through their mailboxes.

It maybe noted that during Mother's Day numerous people celebrate the day by exuding gratitude to mothers across the globe. A yearly event, Mother's Day, however, is marked on varied calendar dates vis-à-vis various countries.

The current spam mail from online-fraudsters reminds the recipient about Mother's Day for which flowers are available at $19.99. But if the user follows the embedded web-link he'll get led onto a site showing plentiful items he can buy as varied as Aston Martins to gourmet hamburgers. Alarmingly, the site is fraudulent as it triggers phishing assaults for capturing credit-card details.

And while the above gifts maybe of particular interest to men, other fake stores too float to launch Mother's Day malicious campaigns. These stores sell much liked gifts (designer clothing, shoes and jewelry). Overall, Web-surfers coming across any discount Internet-based shop via dubious e-mail should be careful as it could be a scam. They must overlook such an e-mail while search a well-established website for fair bargaining.

Moreover, mothers on their own part too must remain wary of suspicious e-mails. Situation during the 90s, when e-card websites -cute and unique- gave unhindered pleasure, isn't same now as one may get malware through electronic mail much like an announcement of a genuine animated card.

Disturbingly, BitDefender isn't the sole discoverer of Internet-scams abusing the forthcoming special day. One Internet complaint solving forum, Scambook as well tells of 2 new scams striking websites selling travel tickets and users' mailboxes.

Of these, the first one works to be Travelocity fraud, which utilizes the firm's logo and nomenclature, however, on close analysis, it's apparent that the promotion is not from Travelocity.

The second one involves an e-mail advertising 'US Airlines' a non-existent aircraft service presenting aircraft-tickets for free which are redeemable via selecting a number along with supplying personal information.
