East Texans Warned of Scam Emails Impersonating Texas Bank and Trust

Kitv.com reported on 12th July, 2013 that Longview Police department, Texas, US is warning East Texans about a fake email targeting Texas Bank and Trust customers.

Texas Bank and Trust customers and employees are getting emails with a link that could contain "malicious software viruses."

Some of the scam emails coming with a message read as "Your Bank password was changed on 07/05/2013.If you did not change your password or if you have any query, please contact EBC Technical Support by clicking the link on Monday - Friday, 8 AM to 8 PM PST. Please do not reply as this is an automated message.

Police says that they have received reports from Texas Bank and Trust customers and employees and warns about a widespread scam targeting other bank employees and customers as well.

Police are advising consumers not to open any emails coming from unrecognized email address of the bank.

Unfortunately, Texas Bank and Trust customers have been attacked by a phishing email scam. phishing scams are attempting to take valuable information by sending mass email to every address they find. The email will appear to have come from a bank or financial institution like the above case involving Texas Bank and Trust informing recipients about some changes in password or asking to update recipient's information for one or other reason. It usually comes with a link which recipient needs to click to do so as in the above case.

You may forward such phishing emails to the company, bank or organization impersonated in the email like Texas bank and Trust in this case. You may also report to reportphishing@antiphishing.org. The Anti phishing working group consisting ISPs, Security vendors, Financial institutions and Law enforcement agencies, uses these reports to fight phishing.

Moreover, Texas bank and Trust is not the only bank which has been attacked by scammers in recent times. In June 2013, Bit defender warned customers of Wells Fargo to be on the lookout for malware-carrying emails which purported to come from the financial organization.
