Coast360 warns its Members to be Wary of Phishing Scam

Guampdn.com published news on 4th October, 2013 stating that 'Coast360 Federal Credit Union' has received reports recently of an alleged phishing scam.

Notably, 'Coast360 Federal Credit Union', is a not-for-profit cooperative Bank based at Maite, a municipality or village situated in Guam, United States.

Credit Union in a recent press release states that the email entitled "Online Banking Security Alert" is actually from a bogus source and extremely sophisticated.

The release also stated that the fake email asserts that a 'billing error' has occurred and customers are requested to login with the help of the link enclosed within the email to up-date their account information. The scammers disguise their bogus web site link with the Website URL of Credit Union and the link unbolts a fake site that mimics the banking web page of Coast360.

Coast360 advises people to call them immediately if anyone has clicked on the link in the scam email or entered credentials on the bogus web site.

Credit Union has raised an alert about the same on its official website www.coast360fcu.com and distanced itself from the ongoing phishing email campaign.

Officials analyzing the scam email campaign comment that phishing is the attempt to defraud an online account holder of financial information by posing as a legitimate company like Coast360 Federal Credit Union as in the above case.

Hence, to reduce the chances of being victimized by such scam email, the officials recommend some simple security tips such as: Firstly, never reveal personal information via email. Always remember that Coast360 never asks for its customers' debit or credit card numbers, PIN (Personal Identification Numbers) or the 4 figured security code. Therefore, to be safe, never send your information via email or text message, as are being requested in the abovementioned email.

Secondly, never log in to any link which is embedded in an email message as in the above case. To avoid being trapped by scammers, always type the URL address directly and then log in.

Thirdly, Coast360 recommends to assess your online banking risk occasionally and put increased security controls into place where weaknesses are found; mainly for members with business accounts.
