ANZ Bank Clients Warned Against New Phishing E-mails

Security researchers caution clients of ANZ the widely accessed bank in Australia for remaining vigilant about bogus e-mail notifications regarding somebody as attempting at logging into their accounts with the help of certain unidentified computer, published softpedia.com dated November 6, 2013.

Bearing a header "Account Incident ID: Z60496200 on November 06, 2013," the fake e-mails claiming as auto-generated messages inform the recipient that the bank spotted one login attempt to his A/C, the day before, wherein the password was valid while the device used was unrecognized.

There is mention of the time as well as place in the message where the dubious effort for logging in apparently occurred.

Thus, the e-mail states that if the person making the login attempt was the recipient himself then he may ignore the e-mail, while if otherwise, he requires clicking the web-link giving a review of his account.

In conclusion the e-mail signs off from 'ANZ Bank Customer Care.'

Unfortunately, anyone following the web-link will encounter one phony login page crafted for resembling the actual site of ANZ Bank, remark security analysts.

Furthermore, in case the person also logs in on this page, he'll subsequently get presented with one bogus online questionnaire, which would request for giving credit card and account particulars.

Somewhat ironically, following the submission of details through the bogus website, there'll be automatic diversion of the victim onto one online security information web-page belonging to ANZ's actual site.

In the meantime, the entire set of details entered, especially the login information would get transmitted to the phishing fraudsters for subsequent use by them towards compromising original ANZ accounts as well as committing card fraud.

The scammers behind the current e-mail phishing campaign know quite well that if they can fool even a few receivers into becoming convinced of their fake messages and doing as instructed, they can gain enough.

Eventually, like ANZ Bank of Australia during the last couple of months, NAB (National Australian Bank) in the same country too advised its clients, during the 2nd-week of September 2013, regarding being vigilant about scam e-mails that asserted restriction in their access to bank's accounts.
