Enterprises Falling Short of Basic Cyber-Security, Comments Specialist

In a recent statement Neira Jones renowned security expert emphasized that companies were yet falling short of adequately safeguarding themselves against probable hackers as well as cyber-attacks while not sufficiently considering the importance of maintaining security as had been seen with numerous organizations that didn't carry out even the basics about preventing intrusions into their networks resulting in loss of data, reported itproportal.com dated November 20, 2014.

Chairman of Center for Strategic Cyber-crime & Security Science's Global Advisory Board, Jones negatively commented about businesses not following the fundamentals about safeguarding their databases while also not having adequate awareness programs on cyber-security.

According to her, organizations that were big-sized would have resources as well as departments while possibly cyber-security prevailed, however, the moot problem was they weren't involved in that optimum level of security.

Thus the organizations assigned low priority to awareness programs while didn't understand security well, with employees largely fulfilling their day job but not feeling that security was their responsibility.

The expert elaborated that assaults especially phishing assaults were currently far more effective as their craftsmanship sufficiently made the malicious messages unidentifiable.

While Jones drew attention to the dividends cyber-crooks reaped from targeted phishing scams, she said that spam mails had particularly increased which contained hyperlinks that when followed resulted in malware. Further, electronic mails that carried viruses or that which focused on phishing too had increased, Jones added. Computing.co.uk published this dated November 20, 2014.

Jones continued that cyber-criminals were getting far more successful in installing their wares. Any e-mail scam comprising just ten phishing messages had over 90 percent possibility of users attempting at viewing it and if those users weren't aware the result could be an explosion occurring.

Jones thus condemns enterprises for failing to assign due importance to cyber-security as there was an immense success rate with messages that phished for money and/or information.

According to her, the problem which the enterprises have is that although they may know there's a security problem, still they mayn't be agreeable in expending their resources alternatively feel determined towards making sure every staff member is responsible for his/her organization's cyber-security.
