Employee of Doordash claims that Someone Hacked his Account and Stole the Payment

Michael and his wife, Laura Lewis, work for the DoorDash delivering food. It is the main source of income for the family. Laura said "that's what's helping us stay afloat right now until I find a full-time regular job". Laura further added that, till now, she enjoyed the work as she can drive whenever she wants and get the payment for her work on weekly basis. DoorDash directly deposited the earnings on her bank account. However it happens twice now, when the money that was earned by Michael was being deposited in another person's bank account.

As per Laura, someone definitely hacked his husband's, Michael's, DoorDash account and then altered the bank account number. Although DoorDash re-sent the money when it gets stolen for the first time, but they will not re-sent the money again for this second theft as their systems does not suffer from any kind of breach.

Get Gephardt has been told by a spokesperson of DoorDash that both Michael and his wife, Laura Lewis, were victims of "social engineering scam". DoorDash denied "breach" of their systems, by writing "we have become aware that third-party scammers have obtained password information from some dashers".

DoorDash has listed multiple ways by which the company tried helping their employees to protect their hard-earned money. However, when DoorDash has been asked by Get Gephardt that why they are not simply sending paper check, DoorDash replied by writing that "Direct deposit is the only way that dashers can get paid to ensure they get their checks on time and that the checks are deposited in the right account that they've verified with DoorDash".

Both Michael and Laura Lewis said that they have never shared their passwords with anyone. The couple further added that are now driving very less for DoorDash, as they cannot afford to work for the company without getting paid. Laura said that "I have pretty much stopped and hardly ever drive for them any more".

As per the federal law, the employers can mandate that the employees receive their payment through direct deposit and can also deny issuing a paper check to the employees.
