Cloud hosting facilitator Data Resolution struggling to regain after ransomware attack

Brian Krebs the tech journalist reports on his blog "Krebs on Security" that Dataresolution.net a provider of cloud hosting is working hard for restoring its computers on the Net following a ransomware attack targeting the San Juan Capistrano, Calif.-situated firm just before Christmas time. The infection of the computers occurred with Ryuk malicious software which had recently obstructed delivery of newspapers all over USA.

The firm Data Resolution LLC gives services to approximately 30,000 enterprises across the globe, supplying business continuity solutions, data center, cloud computing and software hosting services. Data Resolution is sharing one status update dated 29th December 2018 with impacted clients according to which, the attackers invaded via hijacking one login A/C just before Christmas followed with rapidly contaminating servers using the Ryuk ransom software. Krebsonsecurity.com posted this on the Web dated January 2, 2019.

Like any other ransomware, Ryuk encrypts data while solely gives the decrypted data when certain specified ransom payment is made. Ryuk reportedly has been associated with North Korea. By invading the servers the attackers gained hold over the data center site of Data Resolution, for a while preventing the firm's access to its own PCs. It is reported that Ryuk just days back contaminated the Olympic printing factory of Los Angeles Times during one weekend, an assault which stopped newspaper printing as well as the dailies' delivery, notably the San Diego Union Tribune and the Los Angeles Times, among several other publications.

Data Resolution has sent out an assurance to its clients that no data seemed to be stolen. Indeed attackers aimed at extracting money in return to provide the digital key with which the firm could unlock the data content on its servers that the ransom software had seized.

Data Resolution in its status update for its impacted clients indicates that the firm is going on making efforts for re-establishing multiple databases and e-mail access for its customers. Further according to the update, service is being restored for organizations that rely on Data Resolution for facilitating setting up of Dynamics GP software which is utilized for payroll and accounting activities in the different businesses.
