Kenyan Govt. Refutes Its Indulgence In Website Scam

The reports coming from a section of local dailies about the government's hand in hacking the political-based web sites have been strongly disproved by the Kenyan government.

Kalonzo supports Raila for president, as per the official web site of Kalonzo Musyoka on 22 February 2007. Since, all the visitors were redirected by default to the official campaign web site of Raila Odinga for the General Election of this year.

Ironically, all attempts of the technical team of Kalonzo towards undoing the effects on www.kalonzofoundation.org yielded no positive results. On visiting this site, a surfer was invariably directed to www.raila2007.com.

Strangely enough, visiting www.odm-kenya.org directed the visitors to the Kenyan government's official web site showing the message "No time for street demos, rallies or trips abroad we are a working nation."

Briefing in a weekly press conference, Dr Alfred Mutua - the spokesman of the government - said that the hacking might have resulted from scammers registering mirror web sites with names similar to that of the affected one.

Reportedly, the scammers have gained unauthorized access to the web sites owned by the candidates of ODM - Kalonzo Musyoka and Raila Odinga - and the official ODM - Kenya (Orange Democratic Movement- Kenya) web site making it almost impossible to be accessed by them.

The fake web site contains all PR (Public Relation) information on the Govt. and its activities.

Surfers, who visit the affected web sites, are automatically directed to the malevolent sites comprising the govt. web sites. The govt. however has refuted that it has anything to do with the entire mess. Instead, it has blamed the massive registration of mirror web sites for this.

Mutua acquitted the govt. from the blame. He claimed that somebody has deliberately tried to paint a dismal picture of Kibaki Administration.

We're highly apprehensive that ODM Kenyan sympathizers are doing it. So, they can make the govt. misrepresent the govt. as being indulged in an irregular activity, Mutua told to The Standard.
