Organized Cyber Attack Statistics Inflating

The security experts have said that structured online offense has not emerged at once, as the experts have been monitoring its rise for many years, but despite all scrutiny, it is blasting. The volume of new malevolent software tripled during the first half of 2007 in comparison to the preceding six months of 2006, as per the computer security corporation Symantec.

The security software manufacturer McAfee has also disclosed similar reports stating that the quantity of phishing websites noticed during the initial three months of 2007 shot up to 784% in comparison to a year before.

Mark Harris, the Global Director of SophosLabs, the research division of British safety vendor Sophos, said that none of the cyber crime numbers is absolute. The size in terms of absolute numbers has surpassed excessive levels, and they have simply closed counting, according to news published by Ohio on December 29, 2007

During 2006, owing to cyber crime, an American lost around $200 Million. These numbers are collected from individuals who reported their problem to the Internet Crime Complaint Center of FBI. The victims of cyber fraud (numbering 200,000) stated that they were cheated at an average of $724, a sum unimportant enough to depress reporting by individuals and for cyber criminals to hide them.

The FBI estimates the total cost of cyber crime to business for 2006 at over $67 Billion, while it's said that the businesses are impacted even harder with average yearly losses doubling to $345,000 per business during 2007, as per a study carried out by Computer Security Institute.

Law enforcement, research organizations and security vendors all possess a reason to raise the figures at times when it signify growing sales, funding or visibility by the assistance of cyber attacks. On the other hand, corporations, for instance banks, are required to underestimate the trouble reflected by non-reporting of cyber crimes.

Security vendors also expressed concern that cyber crime is turning out to be highly professional and complicated and they require a breather in order to cope up with their technology. Since the last few years, Internet crime has been transformed by a specialized class attracted to stealthy cyber fraud, making the hobbyist hackers outdated who wanted recognition and fun.
