Malicious Vulnerability Found in Microsoft Office and Windows OSs

Officials at Microsoft, a software company, announced on June 24, 2008 that Microsoft released a patch that would fix a critical vulnerability impacting all supporting versions of Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista and the 2007 Microsoft Office System.

The officials also disclosed that the patch is rated as "moderate" for all editions of Windows Server 2003 and Windows Server 2008. Also the "moderate" classified threats targeted a couple of vulnerabilities in Microsoft malware Protection Engine (MMPE).

By crafting a special file, an attacker could exploit any of the vulnerabilities to cause a denial-of-service condition when the targeted system receives that file and is scanned by the MMPE.
