Website of Portugal Embassy in India Under Hackers’ ControlWebsense Security Labs ThreatSeeker Network has found that the website of the Portugal Embassy in India has come under hackers' control and it is distributing malware to the visiting computers. Websense's security analysts state that the malware distributors are attempting to run attack codes through various software packages. These miscreants have already inserted a number of malicious iFrames into the hacked website. These iFrames are utilized for loading rogue JavaScript from Chinese domain names that link to the activities of the cyber criminals. The analysts add that a successful execution of just one among the attack codes could enable the installation of more malware on the infected computers. Thus, Websense ThreatSeeker Network is working to determine the successful execution method of this kind of malware attack that aims at their peers as well as other visitors. Reportedly, the incident has happened just after few days when similar hacks into the websites of the Ethopian Embassy in Washington and the Embassies of Azerbaijan in Pakistan and Hungary occurred. Moreover, the same criminals are apparently responsible for the attack on the Portugal Embassy website as the attack method is similar to the one that was employed to hack other embassy websites. Thus, the security specialists said that the hacks indicate a trend of attacking websites linked with diplomatic missions. The reason for rising number of attacks against these sites is possibly due to high trust of visitors on them. These visitors normally represent multinational companies or are simply businessmen who are financially sound and need to go to foreign countries or to obtain stay visas. Therefore, their computers serve as highly lucrative attack points for cyber crooks looking for theft of people's banking information. Meanwhile, the website of the Embassy of Portugal is presently inaccessible possibly because it has come to know about the attack. Also, the technicians must be working to remove the malware from the pages and reinstate the site. Embassy websites that receive intensive traffic need to be always up so that their visitors are not in a gloom for various types of important information.
